But anyway... when I was a teenager, we were given a challenge in our Sunday School class at church. The challenge was, choose something that you may see often to claim as a token of God's love for you. For our speaker, it was pennies. Anytime she would see a penny on the ground she was say to herself, "God put that there to remind me that He loves me!" My choice was sparrows.
Now, I know I just gave away the end of the story and you could stop reading now but please keep going! Why sparrows? Because in Luke 12:6-7 the Bible tells us, "Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows." Sparrows are considered the lowest of birds. Seriously, people will pull off the road to see a bald eagle but do they stop for a sparrow? Hardly! They're small, they're brown, they're not mighty... One might say that they're not special at all. But God sees them. He feeds them. He mentions the little, lowly, not-special-at-all sparrow in His Word... More than once! And then He goes on to say that He takes care of them and knows when one of them falls. Yet He loves us even more. He takes care of us even more.
Here's another verse that I love to read often too... "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" Matthew 7:7-11 If you're a parent, or grandparent, think of how fun it is to give gifts to the little people in your life and how you enjoy seeing them smile. Your Heavenly Father not only can give good gifts to you, but He wants to!
So the last verse was a freebie rabbit trail that had nothing to do with sparrows but everything to do with how much God loves us which leads back to why we chose Sparrow Hill. Every time I say or see our farm name, it is a reminder that He sees us, He loves us and wants to give us good gifts. It keeps us focused on what is truly important in life. I hope that you have found some comfort and joy in these favorite verses of mine as well! Because His Word wasn't written just for me... It was written for YOU too! Until next time, my friend... :)
